Panoramic Studios was established in 1945 by Herman Abrams and his son Leonard. The firm constructed scale models of buildings and land development sites for various architects and city, state and government planning agencies. In 1947 the firm was hired by the city to construct a model of downtown Philadelphia for the Better Philadelphia Exhibition. The Philadelphia City Planning Commission is a municipal agency established in 1929. During the period of this collection the Commission was composed of twelve mayoral appointees, two members of City Council, and one of the Commissioners of Fairmount Park.
